    Hillingdon Winter Playday – Information from the Local Authority

    Winter Playday is a free fun event for families in Hillingdon. Taking place in the Pavilions Shopping Centre on 13th February from 10 am to 4 pm. The event will include information stalls from a range of organisations as well as free activities including dance tasters, story time, arts and crafts, sport activities and more.

    Fizz Free February – Information from the Local Authority

    In the month of February, Hillingdon Community Dental Service are taking part in 'Fizz Free February' which aims to encourage everyone to think about reducing the number of fizzy drinks they are drinking and giving them up.

    Some facts:

    • Drinking fizzy drinks can lead to tooth decay and other health conditions.
    • Hillingdon has 28.2% of 5-Year-old children with decayed, missing or filled teeth which is above the England average.
    • More 5-9-year-old children are hospitalised due to tooth decay than for any other reason.
    • Some fizzy drinks can contain as much as 20 teaspoons of sugar!!!

     

    They are holding an event at Botwell Green Library for parents/carers and children on Wednesday 7th February (information in flyer below) with a display and a presentation. Also attached is a poster with help finding an NHS Dentist and our oral health website which contains lots of useful information about keeping teeth healthy.

    Reading is one of the top priorities for us at Brookside. Our pupils are given a range of opportunities to engage in reading throughout the day. To develop a passion and love for reading within the home, our parents, guardians and carers were invited to a ‘Stay and Read Workshop’ in Key Stages 1 and 2. Parents, guardians and carers were engaged in tips on how to read with their child and to properly complete the reading record.

  • Year 3 Rainforest Explorers

    Our topic for this term in Geography is ‘The Rainforest’. We have started off by finding out all about the locations of the Earth’s tropical rainforests and we have completed some detailed map work. The children showed great excitement in using the atlases and globes to find tropical rainforests located on or across the equator.

  • SEND Coffee Morning Parent Workshop New News Story

    Our SEND Coffee Morning was a huge success! We would like to say a massive thank you to all our parents, guardians and carers who attended the SEND Coffee Morning on Tuesday, 28th November. This meeting was a great opportunity for the parents, guardians and carers to meet and catch up with other parents and to check in with the SEND Team and discuss any SEND support they have worries and concerns about. The parents left the session feeling supported and well informed. Thank you to our awesome SEND Team for facilitating such a forum.

  • Junior Leaders Pinning Ceremony

    Congratulations to our school’s Student Leaders! On Wednesday, 22nd November, Brookside Primary School held its Junior Leaders Pinning Ceremony. The Year 6 pupils selected to be Prefects, Deputy Heads, Head Boy and Head Girl were pinned in front of their school and parents. The rest of the School had their own pinning for Attendance Ambassadors, Literacy Ambassadors, Mathematics Ambassadors, Monitors and Reading Buddies within their own classes. These children have made the School proud and we are excited to see the leadership they will show this school year!

  • Anti-Bullying Week

    For Anti-Bullying Week, Monday 13th to 17th November, under the theme - Make A Noise About Bullying- Brookside Primary School took a stand against bullying by uniting together to wear odd coloured or patterned socks. By wearing odd socks, we celebrated individuality and were encouraged to express our creativity without fear of judgement. Children all across the school engaged in anti-bullying lessons as they learned about what bullying is and what they should do if they experience or witness it.

  • Happy Diwali!

    Brookside was sparkling with light and colour as we took part in celebrating Diwali, which was on Sunday 12th November! The children learned about the Festival of Lights and how it is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains. The classrooms buzzed with excitement as children wrote about their understanding of the holiday and did colourful rangoli patterns which showcased their creativity. Happy Diwali!
