About Us

Brookside Primary School has established itself as one of the best primary schools in the area, with pupils consistently achieving well above local and national standards in Early Years, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two. Its latest Ofsted report from March 2019 confirms that.

“High-quality teaching means that pupils make strong progress during key stage 2, particularly in writing and mathematics.” Brookside Primary is part of the family of schools sponsored by The Rosedale Hewens Academy Trust.  The Trust has a proven track record of success and is responsible for a dramatic upturn in academic achievement locally.

Brookside Primary joined the family of schools sponsored by The Rosedale Hewens Academy Trust in April 2013.

Through its proven track record of success, the Academy Trust is able to work alongside Brookside to enhance and sustain the commitment to further drive up standards of academic achievement, attendance and behaviour.

The Rosedale Hewens Academy Trust is responsible for a number of primary schools and secondary colleges and therefore has the infrastructure, capacity and resources to make big improvements for children across both phases.  Based on experience and driven by the priority to preserve small educational settings, the Trust is keen to maintain and promote schools where children are able to thrive because they are each known as individuals.   This is achieved through formal structures of collaboration where groups of experienced practitioners work together to make positive change for those families which make up our local community.  Through a common sense of purpose, educational vision and ethos, there is real scope for the Trust to further develop high quality local provision whilst at the same time allowing the school to retain its own distinctive character.

Brookside is able to benefit from the additional experience brought to the school by colleagues elsewhere in the wider Trust; able practitioners who are also passionate about making a real difference to the lives of children in our care.  Working collaboratively as active partners, this enlarged group of professionals delivers a truly unique offer which benefits all stakeholders.

Vision and Values

Aims of the Trust

At Brookside Primary we aim to nurture happy, thoughtful children who grow up to make a difference in the world in which they live.

We provide an atmosphere which enables our children to acquire a wide range of knowledge, skills and practical abilities. We strive for excellence in all we do.  Our school ethos is built around the 6 R’s of:

  • Respectful
  • Responsible
  • Reflective
  • Resourceful
  • Rational
  • Resilient

These R’s are used as a cornerstone in how we deal with all situations at our school and how we reward our children. We believe that by demonstrating the R’s every day, children will become positive members of their school and local community.

At Brookside, we are committed to providing high quality education for all of our learners, ensuring that every member of the school community is valued and respected, always being treated in a manner that is appropriate and just.  We therefore aim to be a caring community where everyone is safe and secure.  Good behaviour is a necessary condition before effective learning can take place.  With that said, this does not mean a rigid or punitive system designed to enforce a particular set of rules.  At Brookside, our priority is to promote positive relationships so that everyone can work productively together, sharing a common sense of purpose; each achieving the very best they can.  Brookside rewards good behaviour, recognises success and regularly celebrates children’s achievement.  We use praise to encourage good behaviour with the firm conviction that every child can become self-aware, independent and confident, both academically and socially.

At Brookside Primary, we wish to promote positive attitudes in the children and amongst all other stakeholders.  With this in mind, we seek to fulfil our commitment to you, unimpeded by expectations that would otherwise limit the progress of your child at school.

The Academy Trust will only appoint additional teachers who will care deeply about the needs of the children in their care, knowing how to make learning effective and enjoyable.

Through an on-going programme of professional development, we can ensure that our teachers have a broad range of effective teaching strategies together with the ability to cultivate individual talents through a programme of personalised learning for each child. Through inspiring teaching, we aim to give each child a sense of well-being, encouraging courtesy and respect so that everyone can flourish and realise their full potential.

Working together, we will plan the educational journey of every child, drawing on the wider resources of the Academy Trust to ensure that there is both challenge and support.  In many instances, teachers are encouraged to operate at the very forefront of local and national innovation, always combining this with tried and tested traditional teaching methods, backed up with approaches that make productive use of emerging technology.

In short, Brookside Primary School strives to achieve excellence, seeking to be among the highest performing schools in the Borough and beyond.
