At Brookside Primary School, we believe learning goes beyond the classroom. This term has been packed with enriching experiences, exciting trips, and opportunities that inspire curiosity and creativity. From historical adventures and cultural workshops to community events and celebrations, every activity is designed to support our pupils’ growth and strengthen the partnership between school and families. Here’s a look at some of the highlights that made this term unforgettable!
Before the Half Term, our Reception pupils took part in indoor practical pedestrian training sessions delivered by the STARS Team from Hillingdon. The pupils learnt about road hazards and how to keep themselves safe when walking on the pavements and crossing roads, particularly busy ones. They were very engaged throughout the session and gained valuable knowledge on how to be responsible pedestrians.
On Tuesday 15th October, and Wednesday 16th October, pupils in Years 4 and 5 took part in the indoor and outdoor practical pedestrian training sessions delivered by the STARS Team from Hillingdon. The pupils were split into small groups and learnt about road hazards and how to keep themselves safe when walking on the pavements and crossing roads, particularly busy ones. Once they received their initial training, pupils put into practise all they had learned. They were very engaged throughout the session and gained valuable knowledge on how to be responsible pedestrians.
Brookside Primary pupils had an unforgettable day as they joined school children across the country for special rugby sessions inspired by England’s Red Roses. The event, held in the build-up to the Women’s Rugby World Cup Final, aimed to ignite a passion for sport and teamwork among young learners.
On Friday 10th October 2025, our school was filled with brightness and positivity as students and staff
came together to celebrate Hello Yellow, a special day dedicated to raising awareness about mental health. Everyone showed their support by wearing yellow, a colour that symbolises hope, positivity, and energy. The day was not only vibrant and joyful but also served as an important reminder of the need to care for our mental well-being.
On Friday 3rd October, our Nursery and Reception parents, guardians, and carers joined us for an exciting Stay and Play session! Families had the wonderful opportunity to step into their children’s world of play — building, creating, and laughing together. It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved and enjoying the activities. These sessions not only bring lots of smiles but also help strengthen the connection between home and school, giving parents a glimpse into how play supports learning and development. A huge thank-you to everyone who came along and made the morning so special!
Over the past week, our Nursery children have been busy engaging in a wide range of exciting activities to support their early development in literacy, numeracy, and fine motor skills. We are especially thrilled to share that, for the first time, we have officially launched a brand-new Phonics Area in Nursery! While phonics has long been part of our practice, this dedicated space marks an exciting step forward in supporting the early literacy skills of our Nursery pupils. The response from the pupils has been nothing short of amazing — they absolutely love the new area and the interactive activities linked to our Sound of the Week.
Last week, we were delighted to welcome our parents, guardians, and carers from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 2 for a series of informative curriculum meetings. These sessions were designed to give parents, guardians and carers a clearer understanding of what the National Curriculum will cover throughout the 2025–2026 academic year. During the meetings,
staff shared key learning objectives, subject overviews, and helpful strategies for supporting children at home.
The sessions also provided a great opportunity for parents, guardians and carers to ask questions and
engage with the school’s approach to teaching and learning. We’d like to thank all those who attended and contributed to the discussions. Your involvement plays a vital role in helping our pupils thrive both in and out of the classroom.
This week, our school was delighted to host a Stay and Read session for our wonderful parents, guardians, and carers. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for families to spend quality time in the classroom, reading alongside their children and sharing the joy of books. Classrooms were filled with warmth, laughter, and the gentle hum of turning pages as adults joined their children for a special reading time. From picture books to early readers, everyone was fully engaged and enjoying the power of stories together. It was heart-warming to see so many families taking part, and the excitement on the pupils’ faces. These shared moments not only help build a love of reading but also strengthen the connection between home and school. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us — your presence made the day truly special!
Our EYFS pupils had a fantastic visit from ZooLab on Thursday 3rd July. The pupils had the unique opportunity to see, touch, and talk about a variety of animals, including a snake, a large African land snail, and more! It was a wonderful hands on learning experience that sparked excitement, curiosity, and some brave little explorers!
