Netball Event at Newham Junior School

On Thursday 12th March, pupils from KS1 and KS2 attended an exciting netball event at Newham Junior School, where they had the opportunity to dive into the world of netball. Throughout the day, the children developed a range of new skills, including passing, shooting, and movement on the court. They also learned about the importance of teamwork, communication, and supporting one another during games.

The event provided a fun and engaging environment for all pupils, regardless of experience, and it waswonderful to see their enthusiasm and confidence grow as the day went on. A fantastic time was had by all, and we are very proud of the effort, sportsmanship, and positive attitude shown by our pupils.

Metropolitan Police Visit

On Monday 9th March 2026, to mark the end of National Careers Week, we were delighted to welcome officers from the Metropolitan Police who visited our pupils aspiring to become police officers or work within the police force. During the visit, pupils had the opportunity to speak with the officers and learn more about what their roles involved. The officers explained their day-to-day responsibilities, showed pupils parts of their uniform, and shared what it takes to work in the police service.

R is for Roar! Our Nursery Phonics Fun

In the nursery phonics session, the children were introduced to the letter “r” in a fun, interactive way that helped them connect the sound to everyday language. The teacher first modelled the sound /r/, encouraging the children to repeat it while exaggerating the sound so they could clearly hear how it was formed. The children then practised by making the sound together while pretending to be a roaring lion or revving a racing car, which helped them remember the sound through movement and play.

Young Voices 2026

After the half term, we were delighted to kick start our return to school with an exciting opportunity for our choir as they took part in Young Voices. Following on from last year’s spectacular event, our pupils once again joined over 6,000 children from schools across the United Kingdom to perform at the iconic The O2 Arena on Monday 23rd February 2026.

A Surprise Visit from London Air Ambulance

On Thursday 11th December 2025, our pupils were treated to a very exciting surprise visit from the London Air Ambulance team. The pupils had the incredible opportunity to see the helicopter up close and learn all about the vital work the crew do every day. The team kindly led a short Q&A session, where pupils asked thoughtful questions and discovered more about the different job roles involved, from pilots to medical staff.

UK Parliament Week and Pupil Voice Week

As part of UK Parliament Week and Pupil Voice Week, our pupils had fantastic opportunities to engage in thoughtful discussions and structured debates. KS2 pupils explored a range of “big questions”, including “Animals should not be kept in zoos” and “Technology in the future will cause more problems than it will solve.” Working in teams, they presented confident arguments both for and against each statement, demonstrating critical thinking, excellent speaking skills, and respectful listening. Their debates were scored overall, and pupils showed maturity, enthusiasm, and a strong understanding of how democratic dialogue works. Our Year 1 pupils also took part by holding their own class debates, practising turn-taking, sharing ideas, and learning how to express opinions in a supportive environment. It was a wonderful week celebrating pupil voice, confidence, and the values of democracy across the school.

On Monday 10th November, our school proudly celebrated Odd Socks Day as part of Anti-Bullying Week. Pupils and staff came to school wearing their brightest, boldest, and most wonderfully mismatched socks to show that being unique is something to be celebrated. The day was a fun and colourful reminder that we are all different, and those differences make our school community stronger. Thank you to everyone who took part and helped promote kindness, acceptance, and individuality across the school.

On Monday, 3rd November 2025, we kicked off Autumn Term Two with our individual photograph day. It was wonderful to see our pupils arrive with big smiles and positive energy, ready to have their photos taken. The children did exceptionally well, following instructions and showing confidence in front of the camera. This was a great opportunity for them to celebrate themselves and create lasting memories of this term. Practical Pedestrian Training

Before the Half Term, our Reception pupils took part in indoor practical pedestrian training sessions delivered by the STARS Team from Hillingdon. The pupils learnt about road hazards and how to keep themselves safe when walking on the pavements and crossing roads, particularly busy ones. They were very engaged throughout the session and gained valuable knowledge on how to be responsible pedestrians.

On Tuesday 15th October, and Wednesday 16th October, pupils in Years 4 and 5 took part in the indoor and outdoor practical pedestrian training sessions delivered by the STARS Team from Hillingdon. Over the past week, our Nursery children have been busy engaging in a wide range of exciting activities to support their early development in literacy, numeracy, and fine motor skills. We are especially thrilled to share that, for the first time, we have officially launched a brand-new Phonics Area in Nursery! While phonics has long been part of our practice, this dedicated space marks an exciting step forward in supporting the early literacy skills of our Nursery pupils. The response from the pupils has been nothing short of amazing — they absolutely love the new area and the interactive activities linked to our Sound of the Week.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome our parents, guardians, and carers from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 2 for a series of informative curriculum meetings. These sessions were designed to give parents, guardians and carers a clearer understanding of what the National Curriculum will cover throughout the 2025–2026 academic year. During the meetings,
staff shared key learning objectives, subject overviews, and helpful strategies for supporting children at home.
The sessions also provided a great opportunity for parents, guardians and carers to ask questions and

Books, Bonding, and Big Smiles

EYFS Go Wild with ZOO LAB!

Our EYFS pupils had a fantastic visit from ZooLab on Thursday 3rd July. The pupils had the unique opportunity to see, touch, and talk about a variety of animals, including a snake, a large African land snail, and more! Making Mosaics Like the Romans!

In their art lessons, Year 3 Brasilia have been diving into the world of Roman mosaics—a perfect cross-curricular link to their History topic on the Romans. The children explored what mosaics are, how they were made in ancient times, and the significance they held in Roman culture. After researching and designing their own patterns, the pupils used small pieces of coloured paper to create their very own mosaic masterpieces. It was a hands-on, creative experience that brought their historical learning to life—and they had so much fun doing it!

On Tuesday 25th February, our Year 4 pupils took part in an exciting Ancient Egypt Workshop led by CREW©. Through dramatic role-play and hands-on activities, the children became archaeologists, uncovering artefacts and discovering what life was like under the rule of Pharaohs and Gods. From scribes to warriors, each child had a role to play in bringing Ancient Egypt to life. It was a fantastic experience that deepened their understanding of this fascinating civilization!

Jewish Synagogue

On Tuesday 21st and Thursday 23rd January, Year 5 pupils visited a local synagogue as part of their Religious Education studies. They explored Jewish traditions, learned about the Torah scrolls, and discovered the significance of key symbols like the menorah. The Rabbi’s insights and a tour of the prayer hall sparked curiosity and thoughtful discussions. Pupils were particularly fascinated by the intricate Hebrew writing and the care taken in handling sacred texts. On Thursday 21st November, our Year 1 and Year 5 pupils got to experience the Mobile Planetarium Workshop. The children learned insightful information on the first man on the moon, the Universe and the Solar System. The pupils greatly enjoyed this experience.

Volcanos

As part of our Geography lessons, pupils in year 4 engaged in a fun and educational activity to construct their own volcano models. The goal was to help pupils understand the structure and eruption process of volcanoes through a creative, hands-on project. After the activity, pupils shared their observations and discussed the eruption process they’d simulated. They talked about how this simple reaction was a model for real volcanic activity, linking back to what we’d learned about magma pressure, gas build-up, and eruption force.

Year 2 Explorers!

On Tuesday 22nd, and Thursday 24th October, Year 2 pupils went for a walk around the Hayes Town to learn more about their local area. This was to enhance their understanding of the current Geography topic ‘Around our School’. The children were shown the different types of centres and shops including the leisure centre, corner shops, grocery shops, bakery, library ect. Pupils visited the local shops and learnt which goods and services they provide. By the end of the day, pupils were able talk about their area and could name some of the places they have visited in Hayes.

English in Action!

This term in English, pupils from Year 3 are learning the skill of comparing between folklore and modern stories. Pupils from Year 3 Ottawa worked diligently in comparing and contrasting the two stories and were brave enough to share their published work in front of peers. They furthermore, explored the similarities and differences between: Cinderboy (the modern version) and Cinderella (the folklore). Pupils from year 3 learnt the important skill of public speaking along with active listening skills. Moreover, pupils were engaged in follow up discussion to recall key similarities and differences in their writing. Year 3 Ottawa is grooming the next set of world-renowned authors!
